Listen to the story
This morning I was asked about these song names by a friend and it caused me to listen to them again and read the lyrics and reflect on their incredible depth of beauty. I know it`s a good amount to read, but these are words that bring life. Also while I was searching I saw that itunes has put together a list of top songs on a $10 CD for the Japanese Red Cross Relief Fund. At first I was struck that they had done this and excited to see them helping. But in the end as I looked up the lyrics of some of the songs, my heart was filled with emptiness. They are hoping that songs about a boyfriend or making yourself a queen will bring hope to these people. My ears hear the tune and my heart hears the words and emptiness falls over me. Those words offer no hope, they offer no beauty. I am reminded that Jesus is the only one who knows what they are really going through, how they are really feeling. I realize how far away our sin has taken us from the reason music and song was ever created, to worship our Lord. It also makes me so incredibly thankful for christian music writers who are gifted at putting the Gospel into song and revealing real hope, and sharing that hope with us. God is a God of worship and he loves it. That`s my excused whenever I am running around my apartment singing, driving my roommates nuts. Or when I am driving in the car with the windows down singing at the top of my lungs, no matter who hears.
I am thankful that God gave us the capacity to play and write music, and to sing. To worship Him. It is an incredible expression of our heart, our emotions unto the God who created us and loves to hear all that we are thinking and dealing with. These two songs capture the pain and the agony of the cross, but also the beauty and freedom of the cross. They capture the divine tension that took place that day, and what it means for us today. I pray as you listen to the story, you will be encouraged and whatever you are dealing with today will be given to the God who cares for you and is the only one who can truly carry your burdens and give you forgiveness, give you peace. I also encourage you to look up the youtube videos and listen to the music. It will lift your heart. Listen to this story...

About a love more faithful than the morning
The Father gave His only Son just to save us
The earth was shaking in the dark
All creation felt the Fathers Broken Heart
Tears were filling Heaven's Eyes
The day that True Love died, the day that True Love died
When blood and water hit the ground
Walls we couldn't move came crashing down
We were free and made alive
The day that True Love died, The day that True Love died
Search your heart you know you can't deny it
Come on, lose your life just so you can find it
The Father gave His only Son just to save us
The Earth was shaking in the dark
All creation felt The Fathers broken heart
Tears were filling Heaven's Eyes
The day that True Love died, the day that True Love died
When blood and water hit the ground
Walls we couldn't move came crashing down
We were free and made alive
The day that True Love died, The day that True Love died
Now, Jesus is alive
Jesus is alive
Jesus is alive
Jesus is alive
Jesus is alive
Oh, He is alive
He rose again
When blood and water hit the ground
Walls we couldn't move came crashing down
We were free and made alive
The day that True Love died, The day that True Love died

-True Love by Phil Wickham
To the cross I look, to the cross I cling
Of it's suffering I do drink
Of it's work I do sing
For on it my Savior both bruised and crushed
Showed that God is love
And God is just
At the cross You beckon me
You draw me gently to my knees, and I am
Lost for words, so lost in love,
I’m sweetly broken, wholly surrendered
What a priceless gift, undeserved life
Have I been given
Through Christ crucified
You’ve called me out of death
You’ve called me into life
And I was under Your wrath
Now through the cross I’m reconciled
In awe of the cross I must confess
How wondrous Your redeeming love and
How great is Your faithfulness
Of it's suffering I do drink
Of it's work I do sing
For on it my Savior both bruised and crushed
Showed that God is love
And God is just
At the cross You beckon me
You draw me gently to my knees, and I am
Lost for words, so lost in love,
I’m sweetly broken, wholly surrendered
What a priceless gift, undeserved life
Have I been given
Through Christ crucified
You’ve called me out of death
You’ve called me into life
And I was under Your wrath
Now through the cross I’m reconciled
In awe of the cross I must confess
How wondrous Your redeeming love and
How great is Your faithfulness
